I have been busy with quite a few things lately and I feel that my paintings are not developing as fast as I wish they would. I’m soon going to run-out of Ultramarine Blue, which is something I have made a priority in my list of to-buy art supplies. I ran into a few problems with this depanneur painting. The first coat turned out to be too oily in some spots – Going against the “Fat on lean” rule [...] 
This new oil painting project is on an 16X20 panel, which I prepared with acrylic based gesso except that this time I mixed a pea size drop of Sanguine colour water soluble oil based etching ink to my last coat of gesso to provide this salmon-pink ground colour. [...] 
Working from several photos that I took earlier, this new painting project is featuring another depanneur in the Montreal Centre-Sud neighbourhood at the corner of deRouen and Hogan Streets. The painting’s support is a 16 X 20 panel, which I prepared with several coats of gesso and then toned in Payne’s grey for a ground colour. [...] 
Here are the steps to my painting featuring a street corner in Old Montreal at the corner of Saint-Paul and Saint-Vincent Street — I can’t put my finger on what’s bothering me about this painting — Although not one of my best work, I guess it’s okay. [...] |
